It’s a double shot D.B. birthday week at BCHQ so we decided to put our clever coterie on the spot and ask them the most difficult questions in our galaxy and every other:

What’s your favorite DAVID BOWIE song and album & what’s your favorite comic book by DAVID BARNETT?

NAME: TINI HOWARD
OCCUPATION: co-creator/writer of EUTHANAUTS & ASSASSINISTAS
SONG: Space Oddity
ALBUM: Blackstar
COMIC: PUNKS NOT DEAD! Though it’ll probably be EVE STRANGER soon enough!
FUN FACT: Photo taken at the Mick Rock David Bowie exhibit at MOPOP, Seattle, March 2018, during the first EUTHANAUTS confab at Emerald City Comic Con.

NAME: CHASE MAROTZ
OCCUPATION: former associate editor at BCHQ
SONG: Ziggy Stardust
ALBUM: Heroes
COMIC: PUNKS NOT DEAD #5, a psychedelic jaunt through 60s London complete with cameos from famous rock stars and obscure demons, all through the eyes of Dorothy Culpepper, a character so well-crafted that I feel like she’s going to leap off the page and give me a firm smack to the back of my head. It’s all I could want from a single issue!
FINAL NOTE: Happy birthday to both Davids!

NAME: MARTIN SIMMONDS
OCCUPATION: co-creator/artist on PUNKS NOT DEAD
SONG: Heroes
ALBUM: Let’s Dance (sorry, Shelly!)
COMIC: PUNKS NOT DEAD: LONDON CALLING, because it takes a brilliantly written first volume and cranks it up to eleven for volume 2!
FUN FACT: #fired (see above re favorite album!)

NAME: MEGAN BROWN
OCCUPATION: assistant editor, BCHQ
SONG: Magic Dance” or “Moonage Daydream.” “Magic Dance” because I’m constantly having to fight the urge to tell people they remind me of the babe with the power (what babe? what power?!), and “Moonage Daydream” because it so perfectly captures a 70s space age mood.|
COMIC: You know I have to say PUNKS NOT DEAD! Just like “Moonage Daydream,” I think David’s work here captures such a wonderful 70s/80s energy; it’s got such a great love for the time period and the music and the frenetic energy, and it shows in every panel.

NAME: CHRIS RYALL
OCCUPATION: President & Publisher, Chief Creative Officer
WARNING: THIS QUESTION IS FRAUGHT WITH PERIL.
Please use the full, complete album title with no abbreviation or Mrs. Bond will mark up your paper in red and make you retake the test.
SONG: But my answer is Ziggy Stardust and “The Little Drummer Boy.”
ALBUM: Okay, for realz, the only workable answer to the former is, of course, “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars” and “Ziggy Stardust,” respectively, but “LIfe on Mars?” and “Aladdin Sane” are close seconds, song-wise.
COMIC: PUNKS NOT DEAD, obvs.
FUN FACT: Chris’ portrait is painted by KID LOBOTOMY artist Tess Fowler

NAME: EVA de la CRUZ
OCCUPATION: colorist on EUTANAUTS and EVE STRANGER
SONG: The same thing happens with his songs, but I guess one of my favorites is ‘Space Oddity’.
ALBUM: I’m not sure about my favorite David Bowie album, because I love songs from different years, but the one that comes to my mind and I have is ‘Hours’.

NAME: GREG FOREMAN
OCCUPATION: web developer and bass extraordinaire
SONG & ALBUM: The Man Who Sold The World (both the song and the album). Black Country Rock maybe a close second.
COMIC: PUNKS NOT DEAD. It was my first introduction to BLACK CROWN titles and it’s hard not to love a story revolving around punk music and the ethereal.
BONUS POINTS: Naming a title track and album and a grossly underrated song and album at that!

NAME: ANDREA PALASI
OCCUPATION: social media coordinator
SONG: Suffragette City. ( I know, I know…probably pretty obvious but I can have that album on repeat and not be bothered for hours).
ALBUM: The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars
COMIC: PUNKS NOT DEAD since it was also my first introduction into Black Crown.
BUT: Ugh 🙁 I hate picking my favorite! Haha

NAME: DAVID BARNETT
OCCUPATION: co-creator/writer of PUNKS NOT DEAD, EVE STRANGER
SONG: Starman, despite the fact that I wrote a whole novel riffing off Space Oddity.
ALBUM: Hunky Dory
COMIC: The next one that I’m going to write, because currently it exists in a state of grace in my head and has not yet been kicked half to death by Shelly Bond and her new creepers.
STATUS: Nursing the world’s worst birthday hangover, declaring bankruptcy due to covering tonight’s Happy Hour cocktails

NAME: PHILIP BOND
OCCUPATION: co-creator/artist on EVE STRANGER, Senior General Dogsbody at BCHQ, local barber’s delight
SONG: “You know I don’t do favorites!”
ALBUM: See above.
COMIC: Beano
AND ANOTHER THING: Philip Bond could not be reached for comment because he is away from the drawing table getting a haircut.

NAME: SHELLY BOND
OCCUPATION: Bowie’s biggest fan since 1974
SONG & ALBUM: Station to Station
BUT: I reserve the right to also include “David Live at the Tower” as it’s my favorite live album of all time, I’m from the Philly area, I know this one by heart and I’m the boss.
PHOTO OP: Taken outside the Taschen Gallery, Los Angeles, at the Mick Rock David Bowie exhibit circa 2015.
